Sync’ing with Microsoft Office Outlook and Android

I use Microsoft Office Outlook for my e-mail because it has other tools like a calendar, task list and address book. I do not use Microsoft Exchange but I do use Outlook on a number of computers which all run the same version of Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and Microsoft Office 2010 Premium.

I also have a Samsung Galaxy Gio running Android which is currently the Cyanogenmod firmware. The best method to use contacts by far on this device is “in the cloud” on Google Contacts. The calendar is the same with Google Calendar. And so are notes with Notes in Google Docs.

I previously have had lots of problems sync’ing to Android. I first used Samsung Kies which seemed alright except it had a tendency to duplicate contacts and calendar events continually so that my phone’s memory eventually filled up. Cyanogenmod won’t actually support Samsung Kies, mainly because the USB device function seems to be broken on the Samsung Galaxy Gio port and Cyanogenmod also lacks the Samsung Apps framework.

I found GO Contact Sync Mod after trying several other methods of sync’ing. When run on a PC which uses Outlook, it essentially sync’s your Outlook Calendar & Notes with Google.

Google also have put out Google Calendar Sync which will sync your Outlook to Google Calendar.

So with those two apps, you have a total sync solution that doesn’t fuck out if you run it on two PCs – and it uses the Internet connection so no direct connection between the phone and PC is needed, just the Internet on both devices.

Windows Loader by Daz v2.1

I thought I’d post about Windows Loader by Daz as I’ve previously blogged about v1.9.7. I recently noticed that Daz has released several new versions since I blogged about it in March. The current 2.1 version was released on the 28th of November.

While 1.9.7 still works perfectly fine for me and every update sees no change to the status of Windows Activation Technology, new versions are worth noting because of the addition of further SLICs taken from OEM pre-installations of Windows 7, and further advanced options to fiddle with. I haven’t bothered to install 2.1, I figure I won’t install a new version of Windows Loader until activation stops working, but its worth noting for any new installs to use the latest version available.

Current releases for Windows Loader by Daz can be found here.

Windows 7: Installer encountered an error: 0xc8000222

I fixed this issue for a customer this morning on a Windows 7 machine. When you loaded Windows Update, it’d say no updates are available despite the fact the machine had no service pack installed (SP1 is the latest release at the time of writing).

I tried to install the System Update Readiness Tool but was presented with the error “Installer encountered an error: 0xc8000222”.

The fault was caused by a corrupted SoftwareDistribution folder. So if you rename or delete %windir%\SoftwareDistribution and then try Windows Update or the System Update Readiness Tool, the problem is then fixed.

Supposedly the same issue can occur on Windows Vista and would have the same fix.

Hamrick VueScan Pro v9.0.61 Multilingual Cracked-EAT

Today I updated my copy of VueScan as I had to scan and send away a few things. VueScan is essentially an app to allow you to use older models of scanners with newer versions of Windows, even if the manufacturer provides no driver, as VueScan provide their own drivers.

Of course I simply pulled it up on rlslog, copied the scene release name and searched NZBClub, then used my Astraweb account to leech at high speed.

However if you’re povo and don’t pay for usenet – you can get it here, here or here.

Logging in to Windows XP or greater with the Administrator account

I get asked this from time to time, or come across a machine that has a damaged profile and the only other existing profile is the Administrator account.

So how do you login as the Administrator since its missing from the logon screen?

Press Ctrl + Alt + Del at the logon screen. The administrator account will either appear, or you’ll be taken to the form based logon where you can enter Administrator as the username.

IEAK 9 Released

As an update to my blog about Internet Explorer 9 being released, the Internet Explorer Administration Kit 9 has been released as production ready and is no longer a release candidate.

Yesterday I built up my own bundle for IE 9 with branding for my business.

Today I will experiment with integrating IE 9 in my Auto Installer NSIS script so that I don’t have to install it manually. There is a “Configuration Only” option that allows me to patch machines that already have IE 9 so they have my branding, so I will have to script up a few checks to see what version of Windows is being used and check if IE 9 is already installed, and then run the appropriate file.

I found that unlike Internet Explorer 8, version 9 is very easy to run as an unattended installer with the /Q flag. However this makes the machine automatically reboot so I will have to try again later today with the /NOREBOOT attribute.

Cracking Windows 7 Service Pack 1

Well I finally got my Windows 7 Ultimate machine cracked. I ran into some trouble because I had previously used RemoveWAT and Chew-WGA and the WGA files had been modified. But it was easy to fix these, it was actually harder to track down how to fix these.

  • I installed Service Pack 1
  • I ran WGA Fix. This rebooted my computer after running for 5 minutes or so.
  • I installed Windows Loader 1.9.7 by Daz with the ASUS SLIC, ASUS Certificate, ASUS Serial & Ignore SLIC option set. I used all the ASUS options as I have an ASUS mainboard. Daz tends to recommend to use the default Acer SLIC, Certificate & Serial. Windows Loader rebooted my computer after less than a minute.
  • I validated my computer on the Microsoft website in Internet Explorer. It passed.
  • I right clicked on the desktop, selected personalize, and picked out the Windows 7 Aero Theme to repair the theme damage caused by the not genuine notices

Cracked Windows 7 and Service Pack 1

win7notgenuineSo I installed Service Pack 1 on my machine which runs a cracked copy of Windows 7 Ultimate. I now get the not genuine notices.

Windows Loader by Daz 1.9.7 supposedly can crack Service Pack 1 however it hasn’t worked for me.

This also means that both RemoveWAT and Chew-WGA have been defeated.

For now I’ll leave it but I will eventually look into how to get rid of these not genuine notices and blog about it.
